red deer engagement photographer ➾ melissa&sheldon

When I first met up with this wonderful couple, it started out as many consults do, chatting about the proposal, where they are from…etc. It turned out that we had both grown up in BC (myself in the Shuswap and them in the Kootenay’s) and moved to Alberta around the same time. As we were chatting Melissa had mentioned that she knew one of  the families that I had shot in the summer. Being intrigued, I asked her which family….it turns out, her and Sheldon were good friends with my best friend Brett and her husband Tyler, from back home! They had had the same group of friend when they were all living in the Cranbrook/Creston area back in early 2000’s. It’s a small world we live in and i’m thrilled that Melissa and Sheldon chose me to help share this new chapter in their lives.

This session is also a bit of a milestone for me, as it was my first professional session shooting with digital and film. I was so in love with the film images I decided to only blog those. I’m excited to include more and more film into my work :)

Camera’s Used: Rolleifelx 3.5f MX-EVS & Mamiya 645 Pro TL

Film Used: Portra 160 & Fuji 400H

Congrats to you both and wish you all the happiness!

This year has been a year of growth for our children. Jensen started grade one and like many moms before me have said....they really do change so rapidly at this age. He has the biggest heart and I see so much love and compassion in him - for example, he came running into the kitchen at my mom and dads a few days ago, in a panic and said "come quick, the guy on tv said we have the chance to save hundreds of animals and to call this number to help!" My sweet boy had just watched an spca commercial and was so focused on getting us to help these poor animals.....i've realized now, more than ever that he is the window to my childhood. We are wire ...

This week has been a tough one with my little Jensen. Pushing boundaries and seeing how far he can take certain situations, talking back and being utterly defiant. It's been a struggle but I am trying my hardest to kill him with kindness so to speak and not resorting to giving "time outs" like I used to in the past (clearly not working anymore) Instead offering solutions based on options. i.e.. instead of  "eat your dinner or you're going right to bed", I offer him a choice - "Would you like to stay here and eat your dinner or would you like to go straight to bed?" It takes his train of thought from, 'this is what I want to do' to 'these are ...

"We really just want to capture candid moments of our family at this point in time. Nothing complicated or high maintenance. :)" - Beth  Well Beth, you won my heart with that statement and I knew right then that we were going to have such and fun and relaxed session. I did have a little "first" that happened for me with this family... I am usually pretty bubbly and happy when I am first interact with the children I will be photographing, so when I first met little Isla, I was asking if she wanted to see my camera and being super happy and maaaaybe a bit too close because she started BAWLING! lol I don't think she shared my same enthu ...
