Our little baby Hudson arrived at 8:17pm on April 18th. I ended up having a natural breech labour and had him out in 17 min!

Long story short, we waited 10 days for the doctors to decide what to do for his surgery and on Tuesday April 30th, they set a date for that Thursday. I was so anxious to get things moving so we could get home but also completely terrified. On the morning of May 2, I handed over my 14 day old son to have one of his three open heart surgeries. The hardest moment of my life so far.

After an excruciating 6.5 hour wait, the surgeon came out and said everything went very well…Lucas and I broke down crying with relief. Hudson has been healing very well and after 5 days in PICU and 5 days in the NICU, we are up in the Paediatric Cardiac ward and hoping to be discharged on Tuesday!

Thank you to everyone that has been thinking about our little man, thank you to all the nurses here at the Stollery, thank you to all the Cardiologists who have been so amazing at making sure we know exactly whats going on with him and answering ALL of our questions, thank you to the counsellors here that have helped me cope with everything that has been going on…..and one last one….Thank You Dr Al Aklabi, there really are no words that I can say to express the place you now hold in OUR hearts and Hudson’s.

You are all a part of our family now.

These photos were up until the day after his surgery, I will post more when I get a chance!

        Hello-
I stumbled upon your blog from a friend’s like on Facebook. I just wanted to let you know that my daughter also has a heart defect. She is now 6 years old and thriving! She has Double-Outlet, Right Ventricle, Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome, and a bunch of other “stuff”. We also knew at my 20 week ultrasound that she would have a special heart. She had her first 2 surgeries in Portland, Maine, and after moving to Alberta for my husband’s work, her Fontan was done at Stollery, 3 years ago. We started out in Calgary, and Dr Fruitman was our Cardiologist…she’s awesome!!! We now live in Edmonton, and work with Dr Rutledge, again,an awesome Cardiologist!! If you ever have any questions about this journey you’ve been placed on, or if you’re ever in Edmonton and need someone to keep you company at Stollery, or to grabs cup of coffee with, drop me a message!! Heffalump23@yahoo.com. Your little one will be in my prayers!!!

You are a superstar Jayme, both as a mother and photographer. Always remember that.

Wonderful, Jayme! I’m so happy that you’ve had such good care. Hudson is darling (and looks just like Jensen)! That shot with the towel… Sigh! xoxo
