the zook family | welcome home estaya

Liz contacted me about 11 days ago about a family session but at that time, I had no idea the importance.

Her and her husband, Jamie have been through a lot over the past 3.5 years, ever since starting the adoption process of a sweet little girl named Estaya. She was born in the Congo and lived there until 2 weeks ago when she finally arrived in Canada. Legally, she was a Canadian citizen and fully adopted but the country would not let her leave. Liz went and lived there for 7.5 months until the president of the country signed off on her release and they were finally allowed to make the long journey home to Canada.

Thank you Liz, for inviting me in to photograph your sweet, sweet family. Estaya is so incredibly gorgeous and so well behaved, I wish you nothing but the best for you three and look forward to watching your family grow.

Welcome Home Estaya!

red deer lifestyle photographer ➾ what I am thankful for
I am thankful for many things. This life has thrown me some curve balls this year and it took some self reflection to really realize how beautiful this little life of mine is. Firstly, I am thankful for my husband. He is the most selfless, inspiring man I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He has sacrificed so much and worked so hard for his family and did so without any hesitation. I am absolutely  in awe of him and and his passion for his craft. I only hope one day to be admired by my peers like he is by his. Secondly, my boys. Jensen, you are my wild child. So free and fearless, I know you will do great things and will do them with ...

Salmon Arm will always be home....soon (well 5-6 years) we will be living close to where I grew up and I can't even wait. Coincidental, Lucas' mom and her husband also live there and let me tell you, their place is one of my favourite places in the whole world. On the top of a mountain right beside a winery...huge blossoming trees, a beautiful garden and the most quant perfect little house. A little underexposed shot of my mom, grandma, aunt and I. ps. My grandma is the best, she is the most kindhearted, gentle soul. Papa bought that little castle as a replica of the one we used to play with at their place when my brother and I were yo ...

This lifestyle session is simple. Just my son, my bed and my camera but it means more to me than anything other session I have done... A few days ago,  we found out that our baby to be (due in April) has a heart defect and will need surgery within the first week of life with a possibility of 3 subsequent surgeries after that until the age of 4. Not the greatest way to kick off a new year. I was quite low and depressed but knew that I needed to get out of the funk. I have always said that photography is my therapy, when i'm behind the camera I don't think about anything other than what is going on in that exact moment  and this session I ph ...
