the cruickshank family | red deer family photographer

You know how sometimes a client falls into your lap and you just know they are going to be amazing?

Meet the Cruickshank family; Simoi and I share a treasured love for the wilderness and I knew the moment I read her email that we were going to be fast friends. I actually started writing this post before I had even shot the session – that’s how confident I was that it was going to be a super fun shoot. She had asked for her session to be in a beautiful place of nature, amongst the trees and moss in a little hideout in the woods. I knew immediately where I was going to shoot and took the boys out with me to set up (that proved to be a difficult task; it was a bit of a walk and I ended up with hudson in his carrier on my front and piggy backing Jensen AND carrying all my gear and quilts…needless to say, I got my workout that day ;) but all that work turned out amazing and I would pack those kids around again if I had the chance! Simoi brought a GORGEOUS quilt that her friend made and I wrapped them up al nice and cozy for a few shots in this beauty…..seriously so pretty…

It was so amazing to get to know your family Simoi, Lucas is so darling and Kal is such a kind hearted man.

When I first started my photography journey, I had questions. A ridiculous amount of questions....and struggled to find the answers. I was lacking in confidence, in a new city and to be honest, too intimidated by other photographers to reach out. I was fearful of them assuming I was just another “photographer” trying get in the industry. I took a handful courses online, tried to read ALL the books but something was still missing. Being a hands on learner and incredible inpatient, reading something and then trying to apply it just doesn’t work. I needed someone to physically show and explain to me what to do and why in order for it to really s ...

I need to give a big thank you to Natalie Andrusiak from Heart + Sparrow Photography in Calgary (seriously check her work out, its incredible)...she pointed Alex and her family my way and very thankful that she did. Little August was so adorable, I mean....look at those curls! He won me over right off the get go ;) It was such a pleasure to photograph your family Alex!

Our little baby Hudson arrived at 8:17pm on April 18th. I ended up having a natural breech labour and had him out in 17 min! Long story short, we waited 10 days for the doctors to decide what to do for his surgery and on Tuesday April 30th, they set a date for that Thursday. I was so anxious to get things moving so we could get home but also completely terrified. On the morning of May 2, I handed over my 14 day old son to have one of his three open heart surgeries. The hardest moment of my life so far. After an excruciating 6.5 hour wait, the surgeon came out and said everything went very well...Lucas and I broke down crying with relief. H ...
