the baker family | red deer family photographer

I had the honour of photographing a truly inspirational family the other evening. Jordana, Adam and Rachel have been through some tough times the past year. After losing their three year old daughter Sarah to cancer in the fall, they’ve spent the past 7 months grieving and celebrating the time they had with their sweet little girl. I am humbled to have been asked to document their family and I only hope this is a small step forward for them. This session is about surrounding each other in love and taking solace in the present.

A word from Sarah’s mom Jordana:

“In that final week I began to see what it meant to live life in the moment. I could not plan for Sarah’s future. The moments I had with her were possibly the last. Now I live with the intention of never forgetting that clarity. The clarity that this moment does not have to be perfect, but it is in my best interest to be present in it.

Perfect is not the goal….”

Jayme – 6 months | red deer family photographer
Sweet Jayme is 6 months and since Aislinn was still pretty unsure of her new sister when we did Jayme's newborn photos, we decided to focus mostly on their connection for this one. These two were in such good moods on Sunday and I am so happy I got to see such genuine interactions between them. Towards the end of the session, little Jayme slipped down and bumped her head on the arm of the couch and was notably upset. The last shot is probably one of my favourites shots ever. A loving tender moment between mother and daughter, that little tear just kills me....

Liz contacted me about 11 days ago about a family session but at that time, I had no idea the importance. Her and her husband, Jamie have been through a lot over the past 3.5 years, ever since starting the adoption process of a sweet little girl named Estaya. She was born in the Congo and lived there until 2 weeks ago when she finally arrived in Canada. Legally, she was a Canadian citizen and fully adopted but the country would not let her leave. Liz went and lived there for 7.5 months until the president of the country signed off on her release and they were finally allowed to make the long journey home to Canada. Thank you Liz, for in ...

When I first met up with this wonderful couple, it started out as many consults do, chatting about the proposal, where they are from...etc. It turned out that we had both grown up in BC (myself in the Shuswap and them in the Kootenay's) and moved to Alberta around the same time. As we were chatting Melissa had mentioned that she knew one of  the families that I had shot in the summer. Being intrigued, I asked her which family....it turns out, her and Sheldon were good friends with my best friend Brett and her husband Tyler, from back home! They had had the same group of friend when they were all living in the Cranbrook/Creston area back in ea ...
