the baker family | red deer family photographer

I had the honour of photographing a truly inspirational family the other evening. Jordana, Adam and Rachel have been through some tough times the past year. After losing their three year old daughter Sarah to cancer in the fall, they’ve spent the past 7 months grieving and celebrating the time they had with their sweet little girl. I am humbled to have been asked to document their family and I only hope this is a small step forward for them. This session is about surrounding each other in love and taking solace in the present.

A word from Sarah’s mom Jordana:

“In that final week I began to see what it meant to live life in the moment. I could not plan for Sarah’s future. The moments I had with her were possibly the last. Now I live with the intention of never forgetting that clarity. The clarity that this moment does not have to be perfect, but it is in my best interest to be present in it.

Perfect is not the goal….”

I got a phone call from my sister-in-law while we were on our way to New York back in the fall of 2012. She knew we were looking for new day care for Jensen and said her friend from back home (that lived in Red Deer) had space in her small private day home. I wasn't aware at the time the incredible impact Bobbie would have on my sons life. I'm very grateful for all that she has taught Jensen and the experiences he was shown. ...but it is with a heavy heart that we must say goodbye to this family at the end of June. Bobbie's husband was offered a lifetime job up in Kitimat, BC and will be moving at the end of the school year. As a thank you ...

at our consultation victoria had mentioned she wished that it would snow for their engagement photos.....well she got what she asked for the day before their session! and not only did it snow,  it snowed a FOOT in 24 hours and Red Deer looked SO beautiful. trekking through the trails in a foot of snow was another story but we managed to get some exercise and some beautiful photos and luckily it was quite warm :)

finally sent in a bunch of rolls of film last month and was blown away by the scans. Film is very near and dear to my heart and I am hoping to introduce more and more into my session. None of these are edited, they are straight from the lab :) Camera's used: Leica M3 with Fuji Pro400H Rolleiflex 3.5 with Portra 400 Scanned by Caribou Film Lab
