I had the honour of photographing a truly inspirational family the other evening. Jordana, Adam and Rachel have been through some tough times the past year. After losing their three year old daughter Sarah to cancer in the fall, they’ve spent the past 7 months grieving and celebrating the time they had with their sweet little girl. I am humbled to have been asked to document their family and I only hope this is a small step forward for them. This session is about surrounding each other in love and taking solace in the present.

A word from Sarah’s mom Jordana:

“In that final week I began to see what it meant to live life in the moment. I could not plan for Sarah’s future. The moments I had with her were possibly the last. Now I live with the intention of never forgetting that clarity. The clarity that this moment does not have to be perfect, but it is in my best interest to be present in it.

Perfect is not the goal….”

You know how sometimes a client falls into your lap and you just know they are going to be amazing? Meet the Cruickshank family; Simoi and I share a treasured love for the wilderness and I knew the moment I read her email that we were going to be fast friends. I actually started writing this post before I had even shot the session - that's how confident I was that it was going to be a super fun shoot. She had asked for her session to be in a beautiful place of nature, amongst the trees and moss in a little hideout in the woods. I knew immediately where I was going to shoot and took the boys out with me to set up (that proved to be a diffic ...

This past Sunday, I was invite into the home and hearts of the Paquette family - a family that could have easily been my own. Extended family sessions are not typically something that I take on but I felt this pull and need to say yes. Every family is faced with tough news at some point, and for the Paquette family, that time is now. With the patriarch, Ray, having surgery in the very near future, they are holding these moments a little closer to their hearts. I arrived to a house of crazy cousins, (much like how my cousins and I were when we gathered during the holidays) butter tarts, inside jokes and even a few break dancers. It had only ...
