red deer engagement photographer ➾ melissa&sheldon

When I first met up with this wonderful couple, it started out as many consults do, chatting about the proposal, where they are from…etc. It turned out that we had both grown up in BC (myself in the Shuswap and them in the Kootenay’s) and moved to Alberta around the same time. As we were chatting Melissa had mentioned that she knew one of  the families that I had shot in the summer. Being intrigued, I asked her which family….it turns out, her and Sheldon were good friends with my best friend Brett and her husband Tyler, from back home! They had had the same group of friend when they were all living in the Cranbrook/Creston area back in early 2000’s. It’s a small world we live in and i’m thrilled that Melissa and Sheldon chose me to help share this new chapter in their lives.

This session is also a bit of a milestone for me, as it was my first professional session shooting with digital and film. I was so in love with the film images I decided to only blog those. I’m excited to include more and more film into my work :)

Camera’s Used: Rolleifelx 3.5f MX-EVS & Mamiya 645 Pro TL

Film Used: Portra 160 & Fuji 400H

Congrats to you both and wish you all the happiness!

Last year my mom sent me home with a few keepsakes - her wedding dress and a giant scrap book of my first paintings, drawings, letters etc. It is something that I am so thankful to her for keeping all those years. I wanted to do something similar for Jensen because, like so many other kids in pre-school/kindergarden etc., he has SO many crafts that he has made here and at day home. I was struggling to find something that would hold everything, and still be nice-ish to look at. I have a giant binder with page protectors (pictured below completely over flowing!) that I had been putting his art in and then it dawned on me....I can still keep all ...

shop the skinny | alberta brand photographer
The boys and I set out to the mountains at the beginning of November to enjoy one of the last - and very unusual - warm days of the year (it was 14C degrees that day!) for one of our favourite shops in Edmonton, Shop The Skinny! We stayed at one of our favourite places in Dead Man's Flats and it has the cutest little abandoned cabin & windmill ever. I've been wanting to photograph the boys here forever and now was the perfect opportunity! After lunch we zipped up the mountain to spray lakes and pulled over at the absolutely most gorgeous location. It was so perfect....the crisp smell of the trees and fresh snow.....I could believe how ...
mother & son connection session | Salmon Arm Photographer
My dear friend Amy (a fellow photographer, and one of my fav IG accounts to follow - seriously @bell_amy go find her) and her sweet boys Sullivan & Flynn. The day of her session, she picked up her boys in Salmon Arm from their Dad in the afternoon, after driving all the way from Calgary, and patiently waited until their session at 7pm. I knew she had plans for a holiday in Seattle but didn't realize she was continuing the journey right after our session....Amy, you are crazy lol So we finished up quick (around 8pm) and before the boys knew it they were all done and off for an adventure to Seattle to see their aunt and uncle.  They arri ...
