I sat in the car at our first location in Iceland, dress on my lap and anxiety looming in my chest. People are going to stare, watch, wonder…Anxiety, panic, wanting to just say, let’s go to a different place with less people instead. But no. He just said “come one lets go, it’ll be fun!”. I had no idea how much this project would be like therapy. Helping me stand up to my anxiety and fear. I wasn’t sure the exact story of this project, I just let it unfold itself as we went along but I do know I couldn’t have done it without Lucas’ support and encouragement. This is me. Hiding from my anxiety, fear, doubt, depression – which is why I don’t show my face in this series. I’m no longer fearful but it will always be hovering in my brain, but I am taking steps to overcome what made me hide in the first place.

I originally had only thought this series would take place during that trip to Iceland but then I had an idea….what if I took that dress with me every place that I traveled and did self portraits all over the world? #aroundthewordinherpinkdress was born. I elicited some of my incredible photographer friends and they have really stepped up helped me with this project and I am so grateful for their willingness to listen to the story behind it and work with me to really create this amazing portfolio.
