When I first met up with this wonderful couple, it started out as many consults do, chatting about the proposal, where they are from...etc. It turned out that we had both grown up in BC (myself in the Shuswap and them in the Kootenay's) and moved to Alberta around the same time. As we were chatting Melissa had mentioned that she knew one of the families that I had shot in the summer. Being intrigued, I asked her which family....it turns out, her and Sheldon were good friends with my best friend Brett and her husband Tyler, from back home! They had had the same group of friend when they were all living in the Cranbrook/Creston area back in ea ...

red deer photographer ➾ artifact uprising art book
Last year my mom sent me home with a few keepsakes - her wedding dress and a giant scrap book of my first paintings, drawings, letters etc. It is something that I am so thankful to her for keeping all those years. I wanted to do something similar for Jensen because, like so many other kids in pre-school/kindergarden etc., he has SO many crafts that he has made here and at day home. I was struggling to find something that would hold everything, and still be nice-ish to look at. I have a giant binder with page protectors (pictured below completely over flowing!) that I had been putting his art in and then it dawned on me....I can still keep all ...

February is also Heart Month! Becoming a heart family has been the most stressful and rewarding experience of my life. Connecting with each and every one of the families we have met in the hospital and through social media have had in incredible impact on our lives. Feb 7-14 is Congenital Heart Defect Week and we will be wearing red every day! 1 in 100 babies are born with a CHD and we are so thankful that Hudson's was caught while I was still pregnant. Thank you to any and everyone that has followed Hudson's journey, you have no idea how much your support means to us <3

I saw a quote the other day that really resonated with me...this explains perfectly why I am moving farther away from digital...
"Shooting Digital is like marrying that sensible girl - the one that went to Wellesley, from a good family and wears well made comfortable shoes. Sure, in many respects she'll make a good wife, but after a while the marriage might feel a little hollow. On the other hand, shooting film would be like marrying a flaky artist. She's quirky and maddeningly disorganized. She can't be trusted with a credit card or to pick the kids up from soccer practice on time. But she's just a beautiful person inside and out and makes ...
