red deer family lifestyle photographer ➾ baby hudson is here ➾ Stollery Children’s Hospital

Our little baby Hudson arrived at 8:17pm on April 18th. I ended up having a natural breech labour and had him out in 17 min!

Long story short, we waited 10 days for the doctors to decide what to do for his surgery and on Tuesday April 30th, they set a date for that Thursday. I was so anxious to get things moving so we could get home but also completely terrified. On the morning of May 2, I handed over my 14 day old son to have one of his three open heart surgeries. The hardest moment of my life so far.

After an excruciating 6.5 hour wait, the surgeon came out and said everything went very well…Lucas and I broke down crying with relief. Hudson has been healing very well and after 5 days in PICU and 5 days in the NICU, we are up in the Paediatric Cardiac ward and hoping to be discharged on Tuesday!

I would like to take this time to say Thank You.

Thank you to everyone that has been thinking about our little man, thank you to all the nurses here at the Stollery, thank you to all the Cardiologists who have been so amazing at making sure we know exactly whats going on with him and answering ALL of our questions, thank you to the counsellors here that have helped me cope with everything that has been going on…..and one last one….Thank You Dr Al Aklabi, there really are no words that I can say to express the place you now hold in OUR hearts and Hudson’s.

You are all a part of our family now.

These photos were up until the day after his surgery, I will post more when I get a chance!

Wonderful, Jayme! I'm so happy that you've had such good care. Hudson is darling (and looks just like Jensen)! That shot with the towel... Sigh! xoxo

Hello- I stumbled upon your blog from a friend's like on Facebook. I just wanted to let you know that my daughter also has a heart defect. She is now 6 years old and thriving! She has Double-Outlet, Right Ventricle, Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome, and a bunch of other "stuff". We also knew at my 20 week ultrasound that she would have a special heart. She had her first 2 surgeries in Portland, Maine, and after moving to Alberta for my husband's work, her Fontan was done at Stollery, 3 years ago. We started out in Calgary, and Dr Fruitman was our Cardiologist...she's awesome!!! We now live in Edmonton, and work with Dr Rutledge, again,an awesome Cardiologist!! If you ever have any questions about this journey you've been placed on, or if you're ever in Edmonton and need someone to keep you company at Stollery, or to grabs cup of coffee with, drop me a message!! Your little one will be in my prayers!!!

When I was about 4 years old, my mom bought me this little red and white 110 camera (it was called The Camera Bug). Amazingly, a few days after I asked if she remembered it, she found it in my parents garage! Its been sitting in my desk since, not knowing what to do with it.... I had asked my mom if she knew if she had any images that I had taken with it and then an idea popped in my head.....I decided to buy some film for it and let my (almost) 4 year old son, Jensen run around and take photos while we were in the Rockies over Mother's Day. Scanned by my friends at Caribou Film Lab in Toronto They are grainy, off centred, too cl ...

ya'll.....this session was SOO much fun! My incredible Wildflowers sister Helen Joy and her family traveled ALL the way from Asheville, SC and met me in the Rockies for an incredible family connection session. I first met Helen Joy last year at Joy's wildflowers workshop reunion. Let me tell you about this woman....she has an infections laugh, huge heart, and a way with words that tears deep into your soul....that type of personality that you can't help but be drawn to. Back in Aug of last year, after the reunion, myself, Helen Joy and our good friend Amanda spent the day together traveling around Mt. Baker in Washington. It was probably o ...

You know how sometimes a client falls into your lap and you just know they are going to be amazing? Meet the Cruickshank family; Simoi and I share a treasured love for the wilderness and I knew the moment I read her email that we were going to be fast friends. I actually started writing this post before I had even shot the session - that's how confident I was that it was going to be a super fun shoot. She had asked for her session to be in a beautiful place of nature, amongst the trees and moss in a little hideout in the woods. I knew immediately where I was going to shoot and took the boys out with me to set up (that proved to be a diffic ...
