A Farewell Story | Red Deer Family Photographer

I first told the story of my dear friends Kat & Aaron’s big move to Salt Spring Island back in May and now I have had the honour of telling Kat’s parents story. Their farm has been in the family since 1905 (home to 5 generations) and they have recently made the tough decision to sell their property – closing date was today! – to make the same move that Kat did.

It was a bitter sweet day filled with stories, jokes, chocolate, tears and horses. Kat’s brother and sister made the trip up from Vancouver just to say one final goodbye to the place they grew up. Abby said goodbye to her favourite pony although her new owners have agreed to weekly Skype calls – so cute!. I had a special request from Susan to get some shots of her husband in the barn, where he spent so much of his time….it was my most favourite moment of the day. I felt their sadness but their excitement for this new chapter was so very evident that it gave me butterflies. I can’t wait to come visit their new place this summer :)

Below is a photo that Kat sent me of her parents house being built, how cool is that?!

Not the greatest way to kick off a new year. I was quite low and depressed but knew that I needed to get out of the funk. I have always said that photography is my therapy, when i'm behind the camera I don't think about anything other than what is going on in that exact moment  and this session I ph ...

a bit of nostalgia
When I was a kid, I went to a small school called Bastion Elementary. On May long weekend, while we were in BC, I decided to get Jensen out of the house for a bit and we ended up down the road from my parents at Bastion. The forest. This place is the home of a lot of good memories. My Trolls and My Little Ponies spent ample time playing house in the roots of those big cedars. Recess was full of races to see who could get the whatever was the coolest thing at the time, the swings were always a hot ticket item and usually won by the grade 7's. I hadn't been to this forest in many, many years....a flood of images from my past sprang to the ...
