2016 | Personal
This year has been a year of growth for our children. Jensen started grade one and like many moms before me have said….they really do change so rapidly at this age. He has the biggest heart and I see so much love and compassion in him – for example, he came running into the kitchen at my mom and dads a few days ago, in a panic and said “come quick, the guy on tv said we have the chance to save hundreds of animals and to call this number to help!” My sweet boy had just watched an spca commercial and was so focused on getting us to help these poor animals…..i’ve realized now, more than ever that he is the window to my childhood. We are wired just the same, which I take as a blessing…I have a bond with him that will never break, I get you sweet boy.
Hudson started full time at Wonderflow Schoolhouse and wow, he really has changed. He is still very passionate and outspoken – aka loud and spoiled lol but he has his little tender moments that peek out to say hi every once and awhile. He is going to do big things, this kid. When he sets his mind to something he doesn’t stop until its done and I know he gets that from his dad. His smile is my favourite. When he laughs but doesn’t want anyone to know he’s laughing he grabs his cheeks and pretends he’s not. He is the silliest kid and is definitely going to be the class clown.
We got a sweet little pup named Timber in January and he was the little puppy love of my life. The boys and I adored him more than anything, and he adored us. As he grew older, we started notching some very severe behavioural issues that were troublesome. Not towards any members of our family but to others. He was terrified of everything and everyone but he turned that fear into aggression and we couldn’t take him anywhere without scaring people – he legit looked insane, ask anyone that came in contact with him. Which, in turn, added a ton of stress to our lives so we decided to take timber to a trainer in Lethbridge that deals specifically with these issues. We got Timber back in Sept and while he was still apprehensive of others he was fully trained for the most part, but he needed a TON of attention to keep him on track. He healed, was polite and every thing was going great. One week later he cut his foot on a plant pot that he had knocked over and then it all started to go downhill. Training took a back seat because he was on kennel rest due to his paw and it all came back, the barking, the lunging at people, the stress…..and then he mistook Jensen for a stranger as he was coming into the house from school with his dad. As Jensen opened the door I couldn’t get to the door to grab him and he barked and lunged at him. He didn’t get him but the what if’s started and at that moment we knew Timber needed more work. So in October I called Peter again and told him what was going on. He suggested a few things that we could do but they wouldn’t necessarily make his life any better (bark collar, kennelled etc) so we made the decision to give Timber to Peter to work with him again for 6 months.
We traveled as a family from Salmon Arm, BC all the way down to Yosemite Valley this summer and we definitely did not expect the amount of time we would be spending in the truck….lol We got to stop in Portland and see Lucas’ Uncle Kevin and Aunt Lois (and their boys!) They live in the most quaint beautiful subdivision that felt like you were in the middle of small town america – naked kids on the sidewalk playing with toys, kids playing basketball in the street and neighbours that you know are all friends. Not to mention Kevin and Lois are two of the greatest people I have ever met and happy that they are in my family :)
Sequoia National Park was definitely my favourite, I have never seen trees like that and it was just so incredibly inspiring to stand and the foot of these giants and think about what they must have seen in their lifetime.
Next stop was San Fran – I had been there as a child but don’t remember much besides the bridge and stopping at this little (actually it was a hollowed out sequoia so it was actually huge) tree house store. When we left San Fran on our way back up to portland, we had just sat for about 30-45 min at a construction site, we finally got going after impatiently waiting and as the traffic cleared, out of the corner of my eye….I saw it…the tree house store. Now, in my 3 year old head, I only remembered one thing…the sign. And that was all I saw. I slammed on the breaks, turned around and took jensen in to find the one thing that my mom bought for me at the store – a wooden mechanical snake to scare my grandma. There was one left – it was plastic but he has it and I hope he will remember going there and hopefully take his kids to pick up a snake of their own :)
Happy 3rd Brithday Huds!
Wonderflow School Barn Dance!
Hudson fell in the creek right after this…he was fine but I was covered in mud lol

We built a playhouse this summer!
I got to spend my 20 year Friend-iversary with these fine ladies in Field, BC
Happy 6th Birthday, Jensen!

They get their curls partly from Nana ;)
Nerdy Portlania sight seeing
it’s not vacation until a wee ones has a tantrum in front of 100’s of people!
So I had just told Jensen NOT to climb on this but he looked so proud up top that I decided to take a photo. Just as I did that, as you can plainly see, he fell and nearly cracked his head open on the concrete below. He listens now.
Jensen climbed that entire hill – Hudson made Lucas carry him and then passed out at Starbucks.
amazed by the pelicans
We did not expect to go to San Fran but made a last minute decision to make the 3 hour trip. I’m so glad we did but we also packed for 40 degree (Celsius) Yosemite weather, not 17 San Fran weather.
His hair faired very well in the humidity
First time seeing the ocean!
See?! Why can’t my hair do that?? geez….
Hud’s nearly drowned in this pool….it was not kid friendly aka, the “shallow end” was 5 feet deep
Inside the Tree House Store! We were INSIDE a tree…Jensen’s mind was blown
At Uncle Kev’s – his place is GORGEOUS!
I got to meet up with my sweet friend Helen Joy in Sept. Her and her family traveled all the way from North Carolina and I was so excited to squeeze and photograph them in my neck of the woods.
